Frequently, on the moment that we making the medical report, we ask ourselves if we should go straight to the point or should we give details regarding imaging findings and incidental findings. Following this logic, a brazilian study, released in 2018, have been the objective of discovered the opinion of 70 doctors (that are not radiologist) about the best way to receive a report.
The participants, as indicated by the research, prefer those that describe the findings and that contain, in the conclusion, an objective opinion with a list of diagnostic hypotheses, as well as their degree of certainty about each hypothesis. Regarding incidental findings, most of participants prefer that the radiologist contact them directly to explain the finding, rather than just describing it in the report.
What about you, how do you usually do the medical report?
